I am so very excited to see this long-awaited sequel release. I devoured the first book of the series and have been patiently (not so much) waiting for the journey to continue!

The author provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review, but I will be purchasing it anyway! Yes, It’s that good!

More about The Liberation:

How far would you go in the fight for your country’s freedom when it’s crumbling from within?

In the near future, all seventeen-year-old Vivica Wilkins wants is a normal life. Time with her boyfriend, her computer, sports. But after becoming a fugitive, the only place she’ll be safe is among the enemies of the government. She has no choice but to join the Emancipation Warriors, the only hope for the United Regions of North America to return to the country it once was.

When her mother is taken as a political prisoner and slated for execution, the Emancipation Warriors change Vivica’s appearance, identity—everything. With her vaunted computer hacking skills, she’s able to infiltrate the government with a job that gives the Warriors a foothold in their fight for freedom and the chance to save her mother.

But soon Vivica is discovered, and her only chance of escape is to become allies with one of her greatest enemies. Together they must follow the government’s trail of evil to its highest levels, where they learn not only the future of their country is at stake, but the entire world.

A Chilling look at what may well – be our future…

The First Principle is certainly what I would call a MUST READ! And I applaud Kregel Publishing for having the courage to stand up with women everywhere over a tremendously important issue!

This story hits home pretty hard for me as I was strongly encouraged by several family members to rid myself of a problem I was clearly not ready to handle – before my son was born.

Now, I was not a teenager and I am so very blessed I do not live in the same society outlined between these pages!

Because if I did, I would probably not have my precious babies – either one of them. And that would be a tragedy!

Now onto my review…

WOW! Just WOW! ~ From the front cover to the words on the back cover, this is just an exceptional book!

The frightening part is that many people could read this book and fail to see just what the problems are with how things work in the present government system…

However, I feel that Marissa Shrock does an excellent job of communicating how different a person’s outlook can be when they themself are in the hot seat.

Vivica’s ideals are a tiny bit shaky from the very beginning – she accepts what is – mostly because she has been told to accept it her entire life, but there is a niggling doubt. And it is that doubt that brings to light just how heinous the system is when she finds herself in trouble!

From there, the story just keeps spiraling deeper and deeper. Do not be fooled – this story is not just about teen pregnancy. There is a web of deceit and subterfuge laced throughout the pages that would impress even the most astute mystery reader!

And the underlying premise – salvation and redemption!

WOW! Just WOW!

I wish I could afford to buy and distribute copies of this book to every abortion clinic in the world. If even one mother changed her mind about what she is about to do after reading it, it would be worth EVERY penny because THERE IS NO PRICE you can put on a HUMAN LIFE!

I am SOOOO excited to discover that Miss Schrock is already busy on a sequel!

Don’t miss this compelling look at what could very well be our future.Tweet this!

About The First Principle via Kregel:

The First Principle: A Novel by Marissa Shrock

In the not-too-distant future, the United Regions of America has formed. Governors hold territories instead of states, and while Washington, DC, is gone, the government has more control than ever before. For fifteen-year-old Vivica Wilkins, the daughter of a governor, this is life as usual. High school seems pretty much the same–until one day, that controlling power steps right through the door during study hall.

When Vivica speaks out to defend her pregnant friend against the harsh treatment of Population Management Officer Marina Ward, she has no idea she’s sowing the seeds of a revolution in her own life. But it isn’t long before she discovers her own illegal pregnancy. Now she has to decide whether to get the mandatory abortion–or follow her heart, try to keep the baby, and possibly ruin her mother’s chances at becoming president.

A rebel group called the Emancipation Warriors, who are fighting to restore freedoms once held unalienable, offer her asylum. Can Vivica trust these rebels to help her or will they bring everything crashing down around her? Accepting their help may come with consequences she isn’t ready to face.

Marissa Shrock’s debut novel crafts a chilling story of what may be to come if we allow the economic and moral crises currently facing our country to change the foundations on which we built our independence–and of the difference one person can make when they choose to trust God’s lead.

The Bachelor | Plain City Peace – Book 2 |Stephanie Reed

The Bachelor is the 2nd book in Stephanie Reed’s Plain City Peace series.

In book 1 – The Bargain, we were introduced to the characters and their complex situations.

In book 2 we’ve taken the next step in that relationship and we become even more involved with these beloved characters.

The Bargain introduced to us the idea that the “Amish” way is not the only path to heaven and at the time it was a radical idea that really shook up our main character.

In book 2, we explore this subject even deeper and it brings so many questions to bear – questions that can probably never be answered to our satisfaction…

Betsie is facing confusion, not only about her parents but about her feelings about two certain young men.

Such confusion certainly explains why the plain people work so hard to limit their exposure to the outside world.

Since that wasn’t exactly an option for Betsie, she is left with her confusion and frustration and some pretty big decisions that may forever change the course of her life… and perhaps even the lives around her.

Stephanie Reed will capture your attention and have you positively desperate for the final installment of this trilogy.

A bit more from Kregel about The Bachelor:

In this sequel to The Bargain, Betsie Troyer is back home in her Amish community where she knows she belongs, free from the confusing Englisher way of life. She and Charley Yoder have made promises to each other, and her life is back on track–until Gerald Sullivan shows up with his young daughter, asking for Betsie’s help. He’s on his way to find his estranged wife, and begs Betsie to take young Sheila in.

When she agrees, Betsie’s carefully planned life is shaken up again. Sheila’s newfound faith is troubling to Charley–and his attraction to another girl is beginning to be a problem. But how can Betsie confront him when she is still trying to confront her own feelings about Sheila’s brother, Michael? Keeping the peace between the Amish man she’s always loved, a twelve-year-old Englisher girl, and a draft-dodging hippie is more than she ever thought she’d have to deal with in her simple, orderly life. Still, Betsie is convinced she can keep things from falling apart completely.

Then during her best friend’s wedding, tragedy strikes and her world is upended. She has to make a decision: does she love Charley or Michael . . . or is she craving a deeper love that only God can give?

The compelling second novel of the Plain City Peace series, The Bachelor deftly weaves together the strands of a solid, simpler time with the turmoil of an era of change, revealing the strengths of both in its powerful narrative.

WOW! WOW! WOW! Can life get any more confusing…?

The Bargain | Plain City Peace – Book 1 | Stephanie Reed

The Bargain - Stephanie Reed

A side of the Amish I’d never “seen” before…

WOW! Stephanie Reed is an AMAZING writer!

Reading The Bargain, It feels as if I’ve been transported to the 70s!

Since I was born in 1979, I didn’t really have the chance to experience them. Thanks to movies and television, I’ve had a glimpse but there’s something different about reading a book written about the era. It gives you an immersion that movies simply can not accomplish.

And this book shows the Amish as I have never seen them – as many readers of popular Amish fiction probably have not. Why – because most Amish fiction is written about the plain people of today…

Even the few historical books written about the plain people, up to now, have focused on the time they put down roots in this country or even when they were on their way here from across the ocean.

Stephanie Reed gives us a glimpse into an era of our country that marked great change for everyone – from a perspective that has certainly not been covered before (to my knowledge anyway).

I applaud her skill – it’s clear she did her research! I am in awe of her writing – not only is an incredibly difficult subject to tackle, but she’s done it from an angle that offers little or no precedence. And I am in love with her characters! Betsie and Sheila and Michael and Charley… Oh if get started, I’ll never stop! They’re wonderful! Just read it!

And how exciting that the 2nd book is out as well! I’m so thrilled I don’t have to wait to read it.

Of course I’ll have to wait for the third book so… if you hear a wail of agony in a day or so… that’s just me – I’ve finished the second one and I’m lamenting the long wait until The Bride – book 3 in the Plain City Peace series – coming winter 2016!

A bit more from Kregel about The Bargain:

It’s 1971, and Betsie Troyer’s peaceful and predictable life is about to become anything but.

When their parents flee the Amish, nineteen-year-old Betsie and her seventeen-year-old sister Sadie are distraught. Under the dubious guidance of a doting aunt, the girls struggle to keep the secret, praying their parents will return before anyone learns the truth—a truth that may end all hopes of Betsie’s marriage to Charley Yoder.

Worse still, Betsie must learn a trade while she boards with a dysfunctional Englisher family: Sheila, a twelve-year-old desperately searching for a friend and in dire need of her mother; the free-spirited mother, who runs off to “find herself” on the stage; the angry father whose structured life crumbles; and Michael, a troubled college dropout nearly killed in the Kent State Massacre.

Thrust into the English world, Betsie must grapple with the realities of war and miniskirts, pot parties and police brutality, protests and desertion. Can she help the Sullivan family and find peace in her new surroundings, or must she forget the bargain she made and seek refuge back in Plain City with protective and reliable Charley?

WOW! Right…?

Goldtown Adventures Book 4 | “River of Peril” by Susan K. Marlow

20140410-084239.jpg

River of Peril is the fourth book in Susan K. Marlow’s Goldtown Adventuresseries.

Another terrific example of how well Susan K. Marlow blends fact with fiction. She takes these intriguing events from our past and blends them with adventure and discovery and kids of all ages will LOVE IT!

In this book we get to read about the dangers of riding by stagecoach and the dangers of messing with smugglers.

And that’s just what the kids are up to…

Susan K. Marlow once again blends faith and fact with fiction and delivers a thrilling tale of young kids off on an adventure, getting into trouble and following God’s prompting to get out.

Another great story! Another great message!

And another story the kids will love and enjoy! They might even learn something. That’s one of the best things about the books in this series. Susan takes real things that kids should be learning in school and wraps it up in adventure so that it sticks in a kid’s mind.

A great read. And, even though I’m not a twelve year old boy, I find myself hoping there are more to come.

Here is a bit more about the book from Kregel:

Jem Coulter thinks his family is just on a sightseeing trip to the big city of Sacramento. Then armed bandits hold up the stagecoach for the secret stash they’re carrying: gold for the Union Army fighting the distant Civil War! Suddenly war isn’t so far away; it’s right there on the road to Sacramento, with Jem’s father, the sheriff of Goldtown, fighting against the rebel army’s Knights of the Golden Circle.

When the family finally reaches the city, they think they’re safe at last. Setting out to see the sights, Jem, his sister Ellie, and their cousin Nathan make a new friend. But is Henry the pal they think he is? With a father who is a die-hard Confederate, could Henry be in cahoots with the thieves?

River of Peril gives readers ages 8 to 12 the fast-moving, exciting adventure they’ve come to expect in this series, as well as a glimpse into the history of post–Gold Rush and Civil War life in 1860s California, with stagecoaches, steamboats, stowaways—and lots of gold!

Goldtown Adventures Book 3 | “Canyon of Danger” by Susan K. Marlow

20140410-084205.jpg

Canyon of Danger is the third book in Susan K. Marlow’s Goldtown Adventures series.

In Canyon of Danger we get to watch Jem be “the man of the family” while his father is away. The story seems to follow a pretty standard track you see with this kind of tale – where everything that can, does – go wrong.

I won’t give it all away but the back of the book mentions an injured stranger, the loss of Jem’s horse and a wolf that is stalking their cattle. I will tell you that these things are just the tip of the iceberg.

I absolutely LOVE how well Susan weaves God and faith through the entire book.

These days most twelve year old boys are too busy with video games or skateboards to think much about God, so it’s very refreshing to read about a young man who regularly calls on God and actually listens for answers.

My eleven year old son has not yet been caught up in these stories but I hope to change that very soon. If I can just get him to sit down with one of them for five minutes, I’m confident he won’t be able to put it down.

I recommend these books for all young boys – those who know God and those who need him!

And they would make an excellent addition to a school reading list because Susan K. Marlow also has an exceptional talent for combining real events with the fictional ones. That makes them educational as well as fun!

Here is a bit more about the book from Kregel:

Jem Coulter’s pa, the sheriff of Goldtown, is away on a trip to deliver a prisoner to Sacramento, and he has left Jem in charge of the ranch—along with Aunt Rose, that is.

No sooner is the sheriff gone then trouble starts—a dead calf, a mysterious stranger, and then Pa’s horse, Copper, and his prize rifle are stolen. And Pa’s deputies seem unconcerned.

Jem and his cousin Nathan find Copper’s tracks end at a dark canyon up in the hills. Jem remembers an old Indian legend Strike-it-rich Sam is fond of retelling about people disappearing and no one ever seeing them again. What is the real story of the canyon of danger? Have thieves found the perfect hideout?

Readers ages 8 to 12 will be entertained by the adventurous spirit and historical lure in this fast-moving series that teaches about life in the post–Gold Rush days of 1860s California. Quick-paced plots and unforgettable characters make these books fun for the whole family.

Goldtown Adventures Book 1 | “Badge of Honor” by Susan K. Marlow | AND A BONUS! Don’t miss it!

20140410-084121.jpgBadge of Honor is book 1 of Susan K. Marlow‘s series Goldtown Adventures.

I tried to find book 2 – Tunnel of Gold but have been unsuccessful so far. So I will be reviewing Book 1 and then books 3 & 4 for Kregel Publishing.

This is an excellent series for young children. It’s a good length for their short attention spans and I believe the story will catch their interest and not let go.

Reading about a young boy, intent on striking it rich will appeal to children of any age – especially boys.

And it’s so nice to find a good series that’s aimed at young boys. There are plenty of series written with young girls in mind but a clean, decent series that will attract the interest of young boys is hard to come by.

And… even though Jem gets himself into trouble a lot, there is a strong message of what is right weaved into the story line so the book presents both perspectives well.

Here is a bit more about the book from Kregel Publishing:

Twelve-year-old Jeremiah “Jem” Coulter knows that Goldtown, California, has seen the last of the gold rush. But the flecks of gold he and an old prospector, “Strike,” find in their played-out claim on Cripple Creek spur Jem’s hope of striking it rich. In the meantime, he and his sister, Ellie, sell frog legs and firewood to bring in extra cash.

When Jem’s father accepts a job as sheriff of lawless Goldtown, Jem is suddenly saddled with an additional responsibility–to run their broken-down ranch. He faces a hard path as he tries to be a man and make his father proud, but then Cripple Creek mysteriously dries up and Strike suddenly disappears. Jem is determined to find out why. Can anything be worse than being a sheriff’s kid? Will outlaws use his father’s badge for target practice? Is that silver star just a target . . . or truly a badge of honor?

Readers ages 8 to 14 fell in love with Susan Marlow’s Circle C Adventures. Now the same adventurous spirit and historical lure are back in a brand new series featuring a new cast of characters and exciting escapades. As educational as it is entertaining, the Goldtown Adventures series is one the whole family will enjoy.

And speaking of Kregel, they are offering a special promotion for the length of their blog tour for books 3 & 4 of this series. Don’t miss it!

During the blog tour week Kregel is offering River of Peril and Canyon of Danger to readers for free on the first day and $1.99 for the rest of the tour.
