Soulmate (Teen Paranormal Romance Series) (The Soulmate Series: Paranormal Teen Romance Book 1) by Kellie McAllen

An intriguing supernatural story of life and love.

The premise for this story is one I’ve not seen before. Kudos Kellie for such an original idea! And it’s a series so the story doesn’t stop with book 1 – which is always great. I typically read Christian fiction, and while this is not, it is a clean read and even has the bonus of great moral lessons.

I love that Kellie isn’t afraid to tackle some serious issues and in a way that will not be too harsh for most readers – well done, Kellie! She brings to light the harsh realities of abortion, the ideas of what is “normal” in society, and the dangers of dating with no rules.

All in all, an entertaining and difficult to put down read! Excited for the next installment!

More about the book from Goodreads:

Most people search for decades to find their soulmate; Rachel Masterson was born with hers. Sharing her body with another soul has had its ups and downs for 15 year old Rachel, but there’s no one she’d rather share her life with than her soulmate, Rider. Fiercely devoted to him, Rachel has ostracized herself from most of her peers and gained a reputation as someone just a little too far gone on the wrong side of crazy.

Her family’s sudden move, however, gives her a chance at a fresh new life, without the stigma of her “imaginary friend.” Hit with the triple-whammy stress of trying to make new friends (and her first boyfriend) in a new school, in a new town, far away from the only other person who has ever understood her, Rachel’s relationship with Rider is strained by the choices that she makes, choices that ultimately lead to their separation.

When a tragic accident tears them apart, can Rachel learn to live and love again?

Erased With Grace by Aynne Cynar

Let me first say that this is not my typical read.

Having said that… WOW!

I may not have hand-picked it but I am definitely glad to have read it!

Aynne Cynar has written a story of such heart-rending… life.

Erased With Grace is an inspirational story – even though it doesn’t look that way for a very long time.

Many of the things Kathy is going through struck a chord with me… and I’m certain they will with any woman who reads the book.

I may not have been through precisely what she has, but there are parallels that can not be ignored and Aynne has such a feel for the emotions and reactions in the situations her characters endure – it’s simply amazing.

And the characters… of the characters – I want to meet so many of them! From the wonderful ladies in her church group to Anna Rose – one of the newest residents at the Franklin Hospice facility.

Aynne clearly believes in a Supernatural God and that comes through in Anna Rose especially. Her faith, her belief, her enjoyment of every day God gives her show just how AWESOME our God is!

We do have an AWESOME God and I am tickled to have found a wonderful book that portrays that message so well!

Yes, this is the first book I have read by Aynne Cynar… but  it will not be the last!

Here is a brief synopsis from Goodreads:

Kathy Penchak is nurse manager at the Franklin Hospice in Cotton Springs, Kentucky.

The cherished role of wife feels erased when she discovers her husband’s newest employee in the family automotive repair business is also his mistress. Her adult children are involved in their own lives and the loss of an old faithful golden retriever, Giggles, still stings.

The newest patient at the facility has lost parts of her memory but not her faith. She possesses a vibrant witness that blesses the staff with warmth, joy, and encouragement right down to a final gift from the “Magic Bucket”.

It’s tempting for Kathy to see God defined through circumstances. The new patient, Christian colleagues, and the WeKnow Sunday school class hold her to the precipice of faith.

Kathy discovers God is able to do beyond what we ask or think and may answer prayer in most unimaginable ways. She learns an empty nest and failed marriage can become a cavern to walk through and arrive into the loving arms of her Savior. Her relationships have changed but are Erased with Grace.

Maggie’s Mission by Rachel Muller | Book 2 in the Love & War series

Rachel and I were chatting the other day and she laughingly told me she went on about her book on purpose – it was all part of her devious plan to get me to read it and like it and become completely and totally obsessed with WWII fiction!

Well… she missed the first bit. One of her mentors, Sarah Sundin beat her to it – as in I read Sarah’s book before I read Rachel’s. And after that yes, I was hooked!

But if Rachel had not talked up the genre, I would most likely have never even looked twice at Sarah’s so she was still responsible for getting me hooked on the genre.

And of course I had to read Rachel’s first book – Letters From Grace – which I reviewed last year and you can read that review HERE if you wish.

But after reading Letters From Grace, I was itching to get to the next book!

And Maggie’s Mission is JUST as wonderful as her first book!

Yes, the subject matter is a bit tough to read about but it’s REAL! Rachel writes about WWII as if she lived through it. You would never know she was not right there with her characters as they lived through the great war!

WOW!

My mother described it by saying the genre had gotten into her bloodand we are not the only two. Rachel has made impressive sales and garnered attention from some unexpected media sources.

I am still very much in awe of how well Rachel has done with her venture into self-publishing and I’m laughing at the publishers who have passed up this amazing book in a series that is getting some very impressive attention.

BRAVO RACHEL!

There is no way I’m spoiling this book for you but I will say this – fans of WWII fiction, READ IT! And if you’re not a fan, give it a chance. I’m betting you will be by the time you reach the last page!

“Spirit of the Red Candle” by Betty Slade

Spirit of the Red Candle is a unique story – written in a well-researched voice.

There is so little about this particular woman in our beloved Bible, it must have taken painstaking research of the period and in-depth translations of the original texts to find enough information to do the story justice.

This is book one in The Scarlet Triangle series and Betty Slade has certainly found a good place to begin.

The exploration of our beloved Biblical persons has become quite popular lately and Betty picked a woman that many people have been intrigued by but were afraid to let anyone know.

I find it fascinating how well Betty has captured the supposed life events that would have led Mary Magdalene to become the woman we are familiar with.

I believe this is one of the reasons that Jesus spoke in parables and stories. He knew we needed that simple connection to truly understand his words and the meanings behind them.

Perhaps this is why I enjoy the New Testament more than the old. The writing, even aside from Jesus’ teachings, take on the more easily followed steps of a familiar tale or bedtime story.

I pray Betty finds many more “characters” to write about. It will certainly open up an entirely new way to look at the beloved Biblical persons we understand so little about.

Here is a bit more about the book from GoodReads:

In 2009, Betty Slade painted an oil of Mary Magdalene titled “Mary, Do not cling to Me.” She said that the eyes in this portrait haunted her and she felt Mary Magdalene had something to say.”I saw her pain and her yearning to tell me about her redemption. From a life snatched away in childhood to an unbearable demon possessed existence, she buried her inner self. She flaunted her pride and lost her dignity. When she came to herself she turned from the seduction of lies, blew out the red candle, and wrapped her soul in the promise of redemption.”

Mary Magdalene struggled with many of our present day issues. The answer she found was in plain sight. Love is the fulfillment of every soul and it comes in the morning light begging to be let in. History will do as it wishes. It confuses truth, compounds guilt, and shackles reality, but love is stronger than history.

Spirit of the Red Candle: Journal of Mary Magdalene is the first in The Scarlet Triangle Series. Mary Magdalene yearns to be free from the seven demons clutching her soul. Her journal chronicles her life in Magdala and her struggles to break free from demon possession. Mary Magdalene’s life unfolds from bondage into belonging.

From the Journal of Mary Magdalene:
The red stain of the pomegranate on our lips will linger through the night, but his words have been etched in my heart. I will travel with him. I will taste the strange new fruits from the lands he will show me. The chill of the wind cooled our mounting passion but not before I captured his heart.

Compelling isn’t it…

Introducing Rachel D. Muller and her DEBUT novel: “Letters From Grace”

First of all I would like to say that I congratulate Rachel Muller for making the decision to go Indie!

We live in an ever-changing world and the literature we love has to be able to flow and change with that world… and only the best writers know just how essential it is to be flexible!

Rachel Muller has written the novel of her heart. I know how that feels and I even feel as if I’ve been on part of this adventure with her.

I’ve watched as she blogged and hinted at the contents of this novel. I’ve read posts about her journey as an author and I applauded her decision to go Indie when the circumstances were not precisely what she wanted for her work.

Maybe authors today are making the choice to become independent because they want more control over their own work. They want to be the one who makes the tough decisions and I find that incredibly brave!

To read this work is to be transported to our own little piece of history.

Rachel did an incredible job researching her favorite period in history. I know I’ve enjoyed reading about where that research has taken her.

Letters From Grace is the first book in what is meant to be a series and I’m excited to see what is coming next!

Fair warning: this book is not for the faint of heart. The subject matter touches on one of the most difficult times in our country’s history and, though it does that very well, it is a difficult period to read about for many people.

But then war is never easy to read about…

The important part is that Rachel brings us this story, pulling us into a time long gone – reminding us why it is important to remember, why it is important to teach our children to remember.

I don’t know about you but I was never all that interested in history. If only all the events in history were put into novel form… I know I would enjoy it a lot more!

I reviewed Hidden yesterday but here’s a bit more about Hidden anyway:

HIDDEN by Vannetta Chapman
Home is where our story begins …

DANA JACOBS would rather forget the night of tragedy and violence that marred her childhood. She is now supervisor in charge of the Department of Homeland Security in Taos, New Mexico. Her team is prepared to handle any threat—biological, chemical, conventional, cyber, even nuclear. BENJAMIN MARSHALL is newly assigned to Dana’s office. Straight from a six year military deployment, he is not what Dana wants or needs.

Ben knows God has a reason for putting him in this place at this time—to help Dana. When a local school is threatened, they open a case which leads them on a chase through the Enchanted Circle and Carson National Forest, pursuing a man filled with a bitterness Dana can understand. But her anger is different. It’s justified, it remains hidden inside, and it hurts no one.

Can Dana face her own mortality? And when she does, can she truly understand what it means to forgive and to be forgiven?

A NEW novel in a NEW genre by Vannetta Chapman! Don’t miss it!

HIDDEN by Vannetta Chapman

Hidden is a prime example of why Vannetta Chapman is such a fantastic author!

It doesn’t matter what she writes…

She is talented!

It won’t take more than a sentence to have you hooked. It won’t take more than a page before you’re pulled into the lives of these characters and then you simply can not put the book down.

I want so badly to tell you all about it but I can’t spoil it for you! It’s just too good!

This book is headed for the bestseller list!

And I can’t wait for book 2 now!

This is not the book you expect from Vannetta Chapman, but it is a masterful story and a true blessing!

From the wonderful depth of story, you would think Vannetta spent twenty years working with Homeland security. She even uses the slang such an agency would use and it is so flawlessly inserted, you may not even notice it at first…

This is also one of those books that you know to expect a romance at some point; there are so many natural roadblocks. It is amazing to me that Vannetta is so skilled a writer to be able to move things around and set things up… and you never see it coming… and you never know what to expect!

And you don’t have to step outside your comfort zone a bit. Even if this is not the typical genre for you, it is worth every minute of your time!

Just all-around a GREAT book!

Don’t miss it!

Have you ever considered adoption?

I met Jody not too long at a workshop she held in one of our local libraries.

I admit, I had never stopped to think about the roller-coaster ride that can be the road to adoption…but The Eye of Adoption has shown me.

It has also shown how having an amazing attitude can make the journey one that will change you – yes – but for the better.

Even the cover shows this unique contrast. You see the wind whipped clouds above a relatively calm sea of soothing blue and white and all you have to do is step in…

Once upon a time I considered the idea of adoption (as I was told by several doctors that I would never have children naturally) but God had other plans for me.

But… WOW! Am I glad I read this book!

Jody Cantrell Dyer has a wonderful outlook and a delightful sense of humor about the whole experience.

Whether you are considering adoption or not… read this book!

Jody takes us through every step of her journey with humor and helpful advice and she does it in such a way that shows us all the difficulties of the journey while making us laugh and feel joy with her!

What a wonderful gift this book would make for anyone in your life who is considering adoption!

Here is what GoodReads has to say about “The Eye of Adoption”:

“No one just adopts.” From the very first steps of acknowledging adoption as a choice to the final document that seals the deal, Jody Cantrell Dyer paints a raw, warm, heartbreaking and eventually triumphant portrayal that narrates the entire adoption process through compassionate and humorous prose.

Dyer’s candor and soul color each page of The Eye of Adoption. She directly addresses the sorrows of infertility and the demands of adoption while consistently word-weaving a life rope of assurance, humor, and optimism for her readers.

A middle-aged wife, mother, and teacher, Dyer “tells it like it is” in hopes that waiting adoptive parents, birthparents, adoptees, and those close to them will find kinship through her story.
