“The Sound of Silver” by Rachelle Rea

OK… I can say this now without fear of spoilers.

I am so thankful Rachelle started book 2 where book 1 left off.

Wondering what I thought of book 2?

LOVE! LOVE! LOVE IT!

Book two of the series is just as fantastic as book one!

Not only do we get to see more romance in The Sound of Silver, Rachelle Rea takes us deeper into the relationship – not only between our characters, but to the world and the people around them.

Book 1, The Sound of Diamonds, was more about rescue . . . and escape. The Sound of Silver is focused on the characters and their journey.

We see quite a lot more about what makes Dirk and Gwyneth tick

Rachelle Rea has definitely found her niche – and yes, I am on the edge of my seat waiting for book 3!

It’s LAUNCH DAY!!! | “The Sound of Diamonds” by Rachelle Rea RELEASES TODAY!

No not the chef on TV…

I’m talking about homeschool (WHOO!) graduate and retired gymnast Rachelle Rea – who also writes AMAZING BOOKS! OK so I’ve only read the one thus far but if one is this great, I have high hopes for future releases!

When readers who do not enjoy the genre or the romance or the fact that it’s a CHRISTIAN fiction novel give the book a thumbs up – you’ve got to know it’s great! No… I’m not talking about me. I’m talking about another reviewer whose review I read just the other day – she was also blessed to receive an ARC copy of the book and in her review, she mentions that this book is so far outside the norm for her, she was hesitant to even try reading it. But she did and she actually enjoyed it… well except for the romance part… but hey – that’s her loss, right? Most of us sappy readers LOVE romance! At least I do!

OK… so what did I think of this book?

Well… I LOVE IT!

Once upon a time, I enjoyed reading medieval and Regency novels, but I stopped for a very long time because the content just got way too adult for me.

THANK GOD there are now Christian fiction authors who are taking on these exceptional genres!

And I hope to see many many more books by Rachelle Rea and other authors like her!

PLUS – this book will appeal to more than JUST readers of Christian fiction! The characters’ faith is intrinsic to the story but the book is not preachy. The message is wonderful, and it fits with the theme of the book – as well as the nature of the adventure that spreads out through the pages.

Rachelle Rea has certainly found her niche and I know I can hardly wait to read the next book! What about you?

Here is a brief synopsis from Publisher

Her only chance of getting home is trusting the man she hates.

With the protestant Elizabeth on the throne of England and her family in shambles, Catholic maiden Gwyneth seeks refuge in the Low Countries of Holland, hoping to soothe her aching soul. But when the Iconoclastic Fury descends and bloodshed overtakes her haven, she has no choice but to trust the rogue who arrives, promising to see her safely home to her uncle’s castle. She doesn’t dare to trust him…and yet doesn’t dare to refuse her one chance to preserve her own life and those of the nuns she rescues from the burning convent.

Dirk Godfrey is determined to restore his honor at whatever cost. Running from a tortured past, Dirk knows he has only one chance at redemption, and it lies with the lovely Gwyneth, who hates him for the crimes she thinks he committed. He must see her to safety, prove to the world that he is innocent, prove that her poor eyesight is not the only thing that has blinded her—but what is he to do when those goals clash?

The home Gwyneth knew is not what she once thought. When a dark secret and a twisted plot for power collide in a castle masquerading as a haven, the saint and the sinner must either dare to hold to hope…or be overcome.

I’m late! I’m late! Shame on me… and such an AWESOME book to be late on! | wagging finger in my own face…

I can not believe I’m late reviewing THIS book! Jennifer – you should smack me.

But seriously… I thought I had already reviewed it. It was only when I went looking for the review that I realized why it wasn’t there.

OOPS!

I know I literally say this about every book Jennifer puts out but I seriously think this is my favorite so far!

And… Oh my word how do I write this review without giving anything away…

I don’t know how Jennifer does it – I mean she comes up with these wonderful stories that are full of such life and good humor and faith – and there are no two alike!

I especially like the new direction Jennifer took with this one! It’s the first time Felty has gotten into the act (I’m not spoiling anything … it’s in the sneak peek in the back of Huckleberry Spring)

One other thing I LOVE about Jennifer is that she is not shy at all about tackling serious issues! She brings them to light and shows her readers just how dangerous these things can be!

AMAZING!

So… not only will Huckleberry Harvest make you laugh, it will make you think. It will also make you frustrated at how thick-headed some people can be and sigh over how exciting love can be!

In short, it’s great, it’s humorous, it’s exciting, it’s REAL!

I did say it’s the best one yet right… ? Yes, I thought I did! So, what are you waiting for? GO… get your copy! Don’t miss it!!!

And, as usual, I can hardly wait to start the next one! Especially since I read the sneak peek!

More from Kensington about Huckleberry Harvest:

Mandy Helmuth doesn’t like Noah Mischler. Not one little bit. First he breaks her best friend’s heart, and then he has the nerve to chastise her for being a busybody. She feels quite justified in her dislike until Noah does something heroic, like save her life, and she’s forced to bestow her grudging respect even as she determines to keep her distance. But when she unwittingly stumbles into his family troubles, she catches a glimpse of the person Noah so successfully hides from others. Will Mandy be able to look past Noah’s rough and unyielding exterior to see the man she is destined to love?

Much to Noah Mischler’s annoyance, uppity Mandy Helmuth thinks she has the right to tell him how to live his life. If he weren’t helping Mandy’s grandfather install a stove and fix his roof, Noah wouldn’t be within a mile of Huckleberry Hill or that nosy girl who gives him a lecture every time she opens her mouth. But when Mandy discovers the horrible truth about his father, Noah is forced to reveal humiliating secrets that he’s never shared with anyone. He trusts her with his secrets, but can he trust her with his heart?

Miriam’s Secret by Jerry Eicher | Land of Promise #1

Miriam’s Secret is the first book in Jerry’s NEW Land of Promise series.

Jerry Eicher has begun another wonderful, true to life Amish series!

As usual, it’s full of emotion and difficult choices…

When the man Miriam is hired to care for dies, she is surprised to learn that she has inherited a huge fortune, along with his family farm.

Having grown up in an Amish home and teaching in Amish schoolhouses, Jerry Eicher knows very well the ways of an Amish community. This is such a unique situation – I can’t imagine this happens often to young Amish girls.

But you can see her faith in the choices she makes…

I don’t want to give anything away, so I’m going to tread lightly here… but it’s a great story!

From the first word, this story will draw you in – and it won’t let you go until the last page. Whether it is the superb writing or the wonderful plot, you will find this book impossible to put down… and if you’re like me, you’ll be wishing the second book was available the moment you finish the first book!

Don’t miss this wonderful new series – the Land of Promise!

Here is a brief synopsis from Harvest House Publishers:

Bestselling author Jerry S. Eicher (more than 600,000 books sold) brings new characters and surprising challenges to lovers of Amish fiction in the Land of Promise series.

In this first book, Miriam Yoder has a secret. Her compassionate care for Amos Bland during his last days resulted in her receiving a large inheritance. When Ivan Mast indicates his intentions at romance, Miriam suspects he’s discovered her hidden wealth and has plans that aren’t inspired by his love for her.

Seeking a fresh start where no one knows her, Miriam accepts a teaching position in faraway Oklahoma where she meets Wayne Yutzy, a local greenhouse employee. His interest in her seems genuine and when he proposes, Miriam accepts. Happiness surely awaits the newly engaged couple….or does it?

Finding Love At Home by Jerry Eicher | The Beiler Sisters #3

This has been a tough series for me. As you know, I have been hesitant for some time to actually read Jerry Eicher’s books but I finally relented after receiving this book from Harvest House to review.

Finding Love at Home is the third book in the Beiler Sisters series.

I don’t think it’s too repetitive to mention how Jerry writes such amazing, true-to-life Amish stories – because he grew up in the Amish faith.

This would give him a unique perspective that most authors who write Amish fiction just can’t reach.

I have seen this perspective – the influence from such a lifestyle – in every one of his books.

It’s also possible that a man’s point-of-view would be different from a woman’s – I think this adds a realistic outlook to the harsh reality of his stories. Yet this is very easy to picture when I think of the Amish lifestyle – it’s much harsher than the soft lives most people enjoy.

But oh, how I am beginning to love reading these stories… I lose myself in them – every time!

The characters portrayed in this story are comfortable friends to me now… and although I was hoping for something different – wow, I was blindsided again – everything worked out for the best. I dare not say more, so you can enjoy the book.

Do not miss this book or the rest of the books in this series.

OK… yes, this one gets 5 stars too. I may have to go back and give the first one 5 stars too…

Here is a brief synopsis from Harvest House Publishers:

From bestselling Amish fiction author Jerry Eicher, here’s another charming book about life among the Plain People.

All Debbie Watson wanted to do was join the Amish and live a simpler life. But when she moved in with her Amish neighbors, the Beiler family, she had no idea the turmoil that lay ahead.

As this final book in The Beiler Sisters series opens, Debbie is poised to marry Alvin Knepp, the Amish farmer she’s loved all along. Ida Beiler is recovering from the tragic loss of her husband-to-be in a farming accident, while her younger sister, Lois, is still running away from her faith.
Debbie takes it all in stride as she brings calm to the sorrowing Beiler family while finding happiness with the young man of her dreams.

Seeing Your Face Again by Jerry Eicher | The Beiler Sisters #2

Seeing Your Face Again is the second book in the Beiler Sisters series by Jerry Eicher.

Book 2 in this series is a perfect example of the point I made in my last review – the young heroine in this book is on her way to joining the church (no easy task, mind you), only to discover that the man she loves has walked away from the church, his family, and her… to pursue a life in the city.

Oh the irony…

Oh the agony…

Just one more example of how REAL Jerry Eicher’s story lines are. More often than not, life doesn’t go the way we expect.

I don’t want to give away anything so I’m going to keep this review short and to the point…

1 – This is definitely a story worth reading. And… if you’re going to read this one you should really start with the first book in the series and then read this one.

2 – I am beginning to see the appeal. No, Jerry’s books aren’t easy to read and the heart-rending turmoil is difficult to deal with but that is what makes these books so irresistible. If they were easy to read, they wouldn’t leave you with such strong feelings about them.

And it is certainly telling that Jerry Eicher can write such deep emotions and show so realistically how his characters deal with them. WOW!

And just in case you’re interested, here is the LINK to my mother’s review of this book.

OK... I give. It has to get 5 stars
OK… I give. It has to get 5 stars

Here is a brief synopsis from Harvest House Publishing:

Debbie Watson is a new convert to the Amish faith and still learning the plain ways of the community in Snyder County, Pennsylvania. She has already attracted two suitors: the insecure but lovable farmer, Alvin Knepp, and the brash Paul Wagler who reminds Debbie of the boyfriend she happily left behind in the Englisha world. When Alvin leaves the community for the big city, Debbie is crushed. Though her heart is with Alvin, she considers Paul’s continued interest in her. Should she simply give in and marry Paul….or wait to see if Alvin comes home?

Seeing Your Face Again is another Amish fiction treat you’ll love.  With Jerry Eicher’s sales at more than half a million books, his Amish fiction fans continue to wait eagerly for his next heart-felt story, brimming with the authenticity he brings from his own Amish background.

Holding a Tender Heart by Jerry Eicher | The Beiler Sisters #1

This has been a tough series for me. I have been hesitant for some time to actually read Jerry Eicher’s books because I see what a mess they make of my mother – who doesn’t shed a single tear anymore at scenes that rip me to absolute shreds…

Well, Harvest House sent me the third book in this series to review so of course, I had to check out the first two books.

Holding a Tender Heart is the first book in the Beiler Sisters series.

Jerry Eicher grew up in the Amish faith – which gives him quite a unique perspective for his stories.

My mother said in her review:

I like that Jerry lets you see these people as real people. Even the people who are too strict, by our own standards, are clearly only doing what they feel is right in the eyes of God and their church.

And that is the absolute truth. Many Authors of Amish fiction write sweet, pretty, romantic stories. There are hardships in some of them but most of the time, they are simple things… or the hardships are things we only see in the aftermath.

But with Jerry’s books, you see the down and dirty and the absolute worst of what a trial does to the characters.

And while it does – yes, make them believable and realistic in a way that you don’t typically see in a lot of other books, it also makes the stories more difficult to read… especially if you are  very tender-hearted person.

Nevertheless, there is something different… special… extraordinary about Jerry Eicher’s novels. He has been quite blessed in his writing and his books continue to top the charts.

And I hope they continue to do so because, whether I can handle the flood of emotions they bring or not, readers love the stories that Jerry continues to bring to life through his characters and their real-life struggles.

BRAVO Jerry Eicher!

4 Stars
(It gets 4 stars ONLY because this is NOT a book I will be reading over and over again – don’t get me wrong… it’s worth 5 stars but I just can’t see myself picking it up again anytime soon)

Here is a brief synopsis from Harvest House Publishers:

From the pen of bestselling Amish fiction author Jerry Eicher (half a million books sold) comes a charming new series set in Snyder County, Pennsylvania.

Debbie Watson is a young Englisha girl who has grown up admiring her Amish friends, the Beiler sisters.  As she prepares to graduate from college, Debbie considers making the life-changing decision to convert to the Amish faith and lifestyle.

Soon Debbie’s presence in the community attracts the attention of two suitors: Alvin Knepp, the youngest son of a poor Amish farmer, to whom Debbie is very much attracted; and Paul Wagler, the more successful and sought-after man, whose constant attention to Debbie reminds her of her old Englishaboyfriend—whom she’d rather forget.

Jerry Eicher’s many fans and readers of Amish fiction will love this heartwarming new series from a master storyteller.

Over the next three days, I will be reviewing each book in this series:

The next book in Rachel Hauck’s Magnificent Royal Wedding Series! | “How To Catch A Prince” | Book #3 | Review marathon!

Before I get into my review, I want to share this video a friend of Rachel’s put together for this wonderful book!

Doesn’t it just give you chills!

In “Once Upon A Prince”, we were introduced to the first Royal couple in Rachel Hauck’s amazing Royal Weddings series!

That story continued in “A March Bride” – a wonderful novella in the Year of Weddings series.

Princess Ever After” introduced us to the second Royal couple in a very unconventional fairy tale and since then, we’ve waited anxiously for the next installment!

And it’s finally here!

I’ll be honest with you. This review started very differently a week ago, when I was setting up my post in preparation for writing the review… before I had read the book.

And now that I have read the book, I find that I must start fresh – because the words I had planned do not even begin to do justice to this sensational story.

I will, however leave the words “You DON’T want to miss even one book in this terrific series!” because you DON’T! Each story is better than the last and How To Catch A Prince is… by far and away… the very BEST!

In the dedication at the very back of the book, Rachel makes a point of thanking so many people for helping her in her time of trial… she basically says she doesn’t know how she managed to write this book at all and she outlines for her beloved fans a bit of what she was going through at that dark time in her life.

I for one, am grateful.

I really think, when reading this book, that it was not Rachel who was writing out these touching words – it was God!

And while I feel for the difficult journey that Rachel went through… I am so very glad that she pushed herself to continue because I believe with every ounce of my being that God penned a very deep and meaningful message through her fingers.

Sometimes you just have to be completely broken – so that God can lift you up and make you whole again.

Perhaps Rachel could never have written so powerfully about Prince Stephen’s struggles if she had not been dealing with her own.

Perhaps Rachel could not have properly communicated Corina’s heartache if she had not felt the wrench in her own life.

Who knows…

Well, God knows!

And I thank God from the bottom of my heart for this beautiful story and I feel so very blessed to be able to do any tiny little thing to help get this book into the hands of even one more person.

So please, read this book. Please do not miss this exceptional story of loss, love and God’s healing power! You won’t regret it… unless you never read it, that is!

A prince, a journalist, a past they thought had been forgotten…Tweet this!

Prince Stephen came to America to escape responsibility. But what he found complicates his life more than ever.

Prince Stephen of Brighton Kingdom has moved on since the tragic death of his buddies in Afghanistan. A star professional rugby player, he has no intention of looking over his shoulder at what could’ve been.

“Love’s Fortune” by Laura Frantz

Loves Fortune

“Love’s Fortune” is the first book by Laura Frantz that I have had the pleasure of owning but it will not be the last!

It will only take a few sentences before you will find yourself sucked into the story.

No matter what is going on around you at that moment, you will hear the sound of bare feet running, thick skirts swishing and the quiet of a country barely settled.

Amazing!

I have a particular fondness for this story-line as I have Gaelic roots myself and more than a passing interest in the beautiful music a true musician can coax from a violin – undoubtedly one of the most elegant instruments ever made.

I won’t spoil the plot for you but I will tell you that this story will take you by surprise.

No predictable easy read is this story.

And though it is the third in the series, you may feel as if you’re missing something but it is only due to the mystery woven through the story and the family legacy – which Laura does very well indeed.

This is a beautifully written book and I’m thrilled to add it to my library!

I’m certain you would be too!

Now I just have to go hunt down books 1 & 2!

A bit more about “Love’s Fortune” from Revell:

With two very different horizons stretched out before her, one young woman stands on the cusp of an unknown future.

Sheltered since birth at her Kentucky home, Rowena “Wren” Ballantyne has heard only whispered rumors of her grandfather Silas’s vast fortune and grand manor in Pennsylvania. When her father receives a rare letter summoning him to New Hope, Wren makes the journey with him and quickly finds herself in a whole new world–family members she’s never met, dances she’s never learned, and a new side to the father she thought she knew.

As she struggles to fit in during their extended stay, she finds a friend in James Sackett, the most valued steamship pilot of the Ballantynes’ shipping line. Even with his help, Wren feels she may never be comfortable in high society. Will she go her own way . . . to her peril?

With her signature attention to historical detail and emotional depth, Laura Frantz brings 1850s Pennsylvania alive with a tender story of loss, love, and loyalty.
