A Mom’s Prayers For Her Son by Rob and Joanna Teigen

They say it takes a village to raise a child…

Well Rob and Joanna Teigen certainly have shared the advice of a “village” worth of experts – and in this case “expert” does not only mean someone who has been taught, tested and certified in the “study” of children.

In the case of A Mom’s Prayers For Her Son, “expert” means other parents, pastors and fellow authors.

If you are a mother…or you know a mother who has a young son, this book is an excellent choice!

There are some mothers who are simply gifted in the area of prayer. We all know them – they’re the ones we ask constantly what they pray about, how we should pray, will they pray for us…

This book is for those of us who are NOT so gifted.

Sometimes you just don’t know what to pray about and if you are a mother, you really need to know!

So buy this book, read this book, and do whatever you need to do to implement this book into your daily prayer routine!

Your son will thank you. His future wife will thank you! People you’ve never met before will one day thank you!

Praying for sons (and daughters) is one of the most important things we as parents can do!

Here is what Baker Publishing says about A Mom’s Prayers For Her Son:

When a mother looks into the eyes of her son for the first time, her heart is filled with love–and questions. “How do I raise a boy? What struggles will he go through? What kind of a man will he grow up to be?” She wants to pray for her son, but may not know just what to pray for.

Now the couple who brought you “A Dad’s Prayers for His Daughter “turns to a mother’s unique relationship with her son. They assure Mom that even if she isn’t always sure what kind of support her son needs, God always knows.

Providing specific prayers moms can use, along with stories from other moms about how God has answered their prayers for their sons, Rob and Joanna Teigen give women a strong foundation to build a lifelong habit of prayer for their sons.

They also explain a little more about boys and what they need to learn growing up, including character, courage, self-control, forgiveness, and more, so a mom can pray for every area of her son’s life.

Have you ever considered adoption?

I met Jody not too long at a workshop she held in one of our local libraries.

I admit, I had never stopped to think about the roller-coaster ride that can be the road to adoption…but The Eye of Adoption has shown me.

It has also shown how having an amazing attitude can make the journey one that will change you – yes – but for the better.

Even the cover shows this unique contrast. You see the wind whipped clouds above a relatively calm sea of soothing blue and white and all you have to do is step in…

Once upon a time I considered the idea of adoption (as I was told by several doctors that I would never have children naturally) but God had other plans for me.

But… WOW! Am I glad I read this book!

Jody Cantrell Dyer has a wonderful outlook and a delightful sense of humor about the whole experience.

Whether you are considering adoption or not… read this book!

Jody takes us through every step of her journey with humor and helpful advice and she does it in such a way that shows us all the difficulties of the journey while making us laugh and feel joy with her!

What a wonderful gift this book would make for anyone in your life who is considering adoption!

Here is what GoodReads has to say about “The Eye of Adoption”:

“No one just adopts.” From the very first steps of acknowledging adoption as a choice to the final document that seals the deal, Jody Cantrell Dyer paints a raw, warm, heartbreaking and eventually triumphant portrayal that narrates the entire adoption process through compassionate and humorous prose.

Dyer’s candor and soul color each page of The Eye of Adoption. She directly addresses the sorrows of infertility and the demands of adoption while consistently word-weaving a life rope of assurance, humor, and optimism for her readers.

A middle-aged wife, mother, and teacher, Dyer “tells it like it is” in hopes that waiting adoptive parents, birthparents, adoptees, and those close to them will find kinship through her story.

Bike Riding and Bible Study…

20140905-115503.jpg

The Ride of Your Life: What I Learned about God, Love and Adventure by Teaching My Son to Ride a Bike.

What exactly does teachng your son to ride a bike have to do with Faith?

Nothing.

…right?

WRONG!

I am thrilled to say that it has everyting to do with it! At least in Mike Howerton’s new book The Ride of Your Life – What I Learned about God, Love and Adventure by Teaching My Son to Ride a Bike it does.

Mike was inspired to take the principles he used to teach his son to ride a bicycle and expand them to help adults… not adults who need to learn how to ride a bike, although I’m sure it would work for that too… but adults who need help in their spiritual journey.

Mike asks us to examine our relationship with God. Are we relying too much on ourselves? Are we crippled by fear? Are we doing things the way God wants us to or like we want to?

A lot of people, I think, are frightened or overwhelmed by God. On the surface, He looks complicated and complex but the reality is that God’s love for us is amazingly simple. We just lose sight of that in the HUGENESS of God sometimes.

So let’s break it down to 5 simple lessons and see if that helps us.

It has certainly helped me!

Will you take this journey with me, with Mike? Do you remember what it was like to learn to ride a bike? Didn’t you feel great after you found out that you could do it after all? Did you ever want to go back to the training wheels? Nope. Me either. And my 11-year-old son didn’t either.

So let’s go along with Mike and see where it takes us!

Here is what Baker Publishing says about The Ride of Your Life:

“If you’re looking to recapture the adventure of your faith and all the possibilities that emerge when you embrace it with passion, you can’t afford to miss The Ride of Your Life.”–Les Parrott, PhD, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Love Talk

We can all remember the first time we learned to ride a bike. That terrible thrill when we first realized our dad had let go of the seat and we were on our own. That first crash. The skinned knees. The life of a Christian is a lot like that. We want to experience the freedom we’re promised, so we take a risk, a leap of faith–and sometimes we fall. But just like our dad running alongside of us, God is always there, equipping us, encouraging us, and comforting us.

Through the powerful analogy of teaching his son to ride a bike, Mike Howerton lays out five essential life lessons that will help you recapture the wonder of a childlike faith and embrace a passionate, adventurous life full of possibilities and promise.
